Here we are again, for the second time:)
This time the figure is 70 mm Elite house miniatures, sculpted by the great Stefano Canonne. As pictorial references I had the great boxart made by Pepe Gallardo, and detailed article that made Jose Hernandez to the Figure International magazine (what more could you ask).
The assembly of the figure is simple, and as we have used the mark, the cast is extraordinary. So I got very little work cleaning everything. Just leave without hitting the blade of the sword, sheath, belt loop and hanging from the handle.
My personal challenge with this piece was on the one hand, should wherever possible at the level of modeling, and another to integrate a little more oil technique.
As you will see the end, the combination of acrylic and oil is in almost all parties. And I have to make even an effort of memory to remember everything as it goes.
From top to bottom I put the mix and type of paint.
All acrylic colors are references to Vallejo, and of oil of Winsor and Newton range "Artist."
metal of the hull (also in gold buttons):
-Gold: English uniform acrylic base. Base oil with ocher burnt sienna + white + titanium. More lights titanium white (oil) and gold printing ink. Shadows ivory black (oil).
-Silver: gloss black acrylic base. Oil base with ivory black + silver ink printing. I added more lights to printing ink and titanium white to the base. Ivory black shadow.
Hull:
olive brown acrylic base. Base oil with natural + umber ivory black. Takes very little light ocher adding some yellow and gold from Naples to the base. Ivory black shadows. Later, with the oil and dry, I washed a black ivory + Indian red this time diluting the oil well.
Face: Acrylic Base
brown sand. Lights also acrylic with golden flesh-> beige + white. Shadows and midtones with the following oil colors: natural sienna, burnt sienna, Venetian red, magenta.
Warrior: Base
Prussian blue acrylic matte black +. Acrylic with turquoise lights (only been two increases). Matte black shadows. At the end of the shadows deepened over with black smoke (oil), it also helped me to smooth the transition from middle to the shadows. Finally I added dirt and wear very thin glazes English uniform.
cuffs and neck
-Red: red acrylic base mate. Light meat base (acrylic). Shadows with red violet (acrylic).
-White acrylic base with brown cover. White lights. Shadows (few) with Prussian blue + black.
binoculars and strap Case: Base
acrylic olive brown + black. Base oil with natural umber. Adding light naples yellow + titanium white oil base. Ivory black shadow. Finally I added cadmium yellow to wear part.
Belt:
belt use target set by Andrea. The lines with brown chocolate.
pants (for me the hardest part of the figure): Base
acrylic gray blue blue + U.S. (there are plenty of opportunities to recreate this color, the idea is a light gray with a blue tone.) Flesh lights mate. Prussian blue shadows + matt black. Recreate the color later with titanium white oil with black + smoke + Prussian blue. Naples yellow then added to give a few filters on the part of clarity in the creases, and black smoke to deepen the shadows on the inside of his pants. When everything was dry, with soil staining his pants mate (acrylic).
Gloves: Acrylic Base
toast + sepia shade. Intense orange light golden brown. + Sepia black shadows. Outlined in black. Curiously, this leather
not take any oil.
Boots: Base
German acrylic camo brown black. Base oil with cadmium scarlet + Prussian blue. More scarlet lights cadmium and Naples yellow + titanium white for the edges and tip wear. Ivory black shadows.
sheath and sword:
Following the same method with silver metal hull, but adding multiple filters (black, burnt sienna, Prussian blue) when the oil was dry.
Hilt of the sword: Base
uniform acrylic English + sepia. Base oil with ocher burnt sienna + white + titanium. Adding more lights and titanium white ocher. Umber shadows adding more black and ivory.
Thanks for your attention.
Hugs,
Fernando Delgado.
